One of the shortest undergrounds can be found in Armenia/Hayastan. With a length of only 12 km and ten stops, the one-line-metro runs through the capital of Yerevan.
The Yerevan-underground opened on March 7, 1981, as the last one to be constructed in the USSR. At an altitude of 1200 meters above sea-level, the Yerevan-underground is one of the highest in the world.
On April 24, the Armenians used their metro to travel to the genocide-memorial, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Turkish genocide of 1915.
